Project Goals and Objectives

The goal of the conference is to develop the PHE agenda as platform for integration in the Philippine Development Plan under the Duterte Administration and in fulfilling commitments of the Philippine government in the 2030 Global Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Outputs and Outcomes

Information sharing:Parallel sessions on: 1) PHE issues and challenges in the SDGs era, 2) Roles and engagement mechanisms of PHE practitioners in advancing the PHE agenda, 3) Applying PHE as a Tool to Achieve Specific SDGs, 4) Partnership, Accountability and Sustainability; Identified implementation, political and legal challenges, and opportunities for implementation; Commitment-signing for the PHE/ crafted the conference declaration, titled, Manila Manifesto which calls for the integration of population, health, and environment programs to advance the achievement of the SDG goals and targets. It acknowledges the challenge of examining how variables and trends in population change, health impacts, and human and natural systems interact and affect each other. It bore the hopes to create a synergy among PHE Network members that will bring greater results for the same amount of effort compared to addressing population, health and environment separately. The Manifesto emphasized the call on the Government sector, particularly the Local Government Units and the national agencies concerned to adopt the Integrated PHE Approach in pursuing the Philippine Development Plan and allow further discussion on PHE approaches as Ambisyon 2040 is being refined; Press conference on PHE regarding Best practices of NGO efforts for implementing the PHE approach and ceremonial turn-over of the PHE convenorship from FPE to Philippine Legislators Committee on Population and Development (PLCPD),
