Project Goals and Objectives
To project a broad constituency against the pro-mining policy and stance of the national government. Specifically, to strengthen a national alliance with a solid local character of anti-mining advocates, reflecting a multi-stakeholder nature to lead the advocacy campaign; support a locally-driven and nationally-supported anti-mining movement in focused sites of struggles; utilize various forms of media as a venue to effectively and efficiently articulate the views and perspectives of mining-affected communities, sectors and other stakeholders; and install a reliable system of mobilization and sharing of resources among advocates, such as information, human, technical, financial and other resources for the advocacy campaign
Outputs and Outcomes
45 organizations joined the alliance. 3 national-level monibilizations were conducted as well as a national conference on IPs and Mining. 3 national-level meetings, and 3 local consultations were held. 3 national statements were issued and the Alternative Mining Law bill was drafted and endorsed to a party-list. 150 secondary teachers were trained on biodiversity, IPs, and mining and 5 school fora/exhibits were conducted. The mining issue was successfully incorporated in the National Sustainability Watch Report of SusWatch Philippines. 56 speakers were trained, 15 sets of IEC materials were produced and distributed to SoS, and Rapid Field Appraisals documenting 12 sites were published. A total Php 455,000.00 were released to 13 SoS; 4 site-level direct actions were supported. The ATM website has been established and 4 press conferences were held, resulting in at least 16 print exposures, 6 TV broadcast, and more than 20 radio coverage. At least 211 postings of ATM InfoShare and 118 postings of ATM updates were also issued, and at least Php 200,000.00 was given as support to PMP and DP activities.
