Project Goals and Objectives

Enhanced accessibility of quality legal assistance and representation to communities that encounter issues concerning environmental destruction, whether actual or threatened.

Outputs and Outcomes

Provided financial and technical support to cases and other legal actions that pursue legal sanctions against environmental law violators, and those that seek to question or defend the validity of laws and policy issuances that affect the rights of communities, or that have a significant impact on environmental protection; Contributed to the improvement of the administrative machinery for the litigation and resolution of environmental cases, pursuant to the Rules of Procedure for Environmental Cases, and environmental laws and policies; Enhanced the interest and capacity of lawyers and paralegals to support environmental cases and increased the probability of their involvement in the advocacy for the environment through litigation; Tracked the progress of environmental cases, in the context of the implementation of the rules, and documented experiences of lawyers, paralegals and communities in environmental litigation.
