Project Goals and Objectives
The planned activity aims to: 1. increase awareness of affected communities and sectors on the issue of mining and logging through the creative commemoration of Earth Day Celebration 2005; 2. mobilize 540 participants to join set activities; 3. deliver the message to the government administration the revitalization of the mining industry is inimical to sustainable development, and violates the basic rights of communities affected by mining. Further, as we lose our forest to logging and mining, we are sacrificing the long-term sustainability of our country for immediate financial gain.
Outputs and Outcomes
a mobilization against logging and mining was held and was able to raise awareness on the issues. it was joined by IPs, the Church, and other communities. the event was covered by the media and resulted into a dialogue between the DENR-Mines and Geo-Sciences Bureau and Forest Management Bureau and Task Force Sierra Madre-Alyansa Tigil Mina
