Project Goals and Objectives

General: The project hopes to continually strengthen people's resolve to protect and conserve the environment against development aggression. By holding the People's Summit on the National Reclamation Plan, the proponents hope to inform and inspire different stakeholders and usher the commencement of an active and massive campaign on this critical issue. Specific: (1) Update and concretize the anti-reclamation struggles at the grassroots level with the participation of other provinces and cities where land reclamation projects will be implemented according to NRP of PRA and the Office of the President; (2) Draw a general and particular program of action against the NRP that will include campaign and propaganda plans and activities and engagement of concerned government agencies such as DENR, DA, BFAR, the PRA, and Office of the President, the House of Representatives and the Philippine Senate and the Supreme Court of the Philippines; (3) Mobilize grassroots organizations, experts from the academe and concerned environmental groups and transform their actions and coordinative efforts into a broad campaign against reclamation.

Outputs and Outcomes

accomplishments: signing of a "Unity Statement" (petition) calling for a 10-year moratorium against NRP and other reclamation projects; creation of the People's Network for the Integrity of Coastal Habitats and Ecosystems (People's NICHE); popularization of reclamation and issues; drafted "People's Resolution on the Impacts of Reclamation on Life and Environment in the Philippines," a 2-year action plan promoting the integrity of coastal habitats and people's resilience, and against the NRP and other reclamation projects
