Project Goals and Objectives

The program aims to: provide interns an overview of the standpoint and work of the legal and advocacy institutions in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao; allow interns to experience working directly with various marginalized communities not only through the confines of an office but through actual community fieldwork; and prepare students and provide opportunities for graduates to be environmentally and socially conscious lawyers who would promote public interest above that of individual clien and pressure groups.

Outputs and Outcomes

The internship program ran for four weeks. Nine law interns were assigned to six alternative legal institutions in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Concerns of the host institutions include agrarian reform, labor law, women's rights, IPs rights, environmental law, and defense of the urban poor. The interns were able to conduct research, trainings, counseling, networking, and other pertinent activities. They were also able to participate in various engagements of their host institutions which provided them skills on policy advocacy work and networking and awareness on issues relevant to their work.
