FPE and Miss Earth Foundation Team Up to Push for Greater Environmental Awareness and Action
Posted on July 6, 2015The Foundation for the Philippine Environment (FPE) recently formalized a partnership with the Miss Earth Foundation (MEF) for the promotion of environmental protection and biodiversity conservation efforts.
MEF is a non-stock, non-profit environmental and social outreach arm of the Miss Earth beauty pageant.
FPE Chair and CEO Atty. Rose-Liza E. Osorio and Miss Earth Foundation Executive Director Ms. AJ Mira (seated, middle) represented both organizations at the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, formalizing the strategic partnership of the two parties. They were joined by (clockwise, from left): Dr. Grace Rebollos, FPE Secretary; Dr. Filemon Romero, FPE Auditor; Ms. Wilhelmina Gonzales, FPE Treasurer; Dr. Paciencia Milan, FPE Visayas Representative; Engr. Pipalawan Naga, FPE Mindanao Representative, Mr. Godofredo Villapando, FPE Executive Director; and Fr. Edu Gariguez, FPE Vice-chair.
Under the Memorandum of Agreement signed between the two parties last June 19, 2015, FPE and MEF will move forward as partners for various events, activities, and promotions that aim to promote and support initiatives designed to address environmental protection and biodiversity conservation in the Philippines.
Among the strategic partnership’s foremost manifestations will be joint efforts in forest restoration in the Upper Marikina River Basin Protected Landscape, one of FPE’s priority conservation sites. In addition, FPE and MEF will also engage in awareness-raising and constituency development actions in the form of an “adopt-a-community” project, orientations on biodiversity and native tree species, and the promotion of establishing native forest and fruit tree nurseries in schools.
For its part, FPE will lend its expertise in the fields of biodiversity conservation and sustainable development to extend strategic support and technical assistance to help design and implement the organizations’ joint advocacies and activities.
MEF, meanwhile, will leverage on its media presence and mainstream audience reach to help increase the public’s level of awareness on pressing environmental issues, as well as the actions that are being carried out to address them.
