FPE Hosts 2016 Climate Reality Leadership Training for Local Climate Change Advocates

Posted on April 25, 2016

The Foundation for the Philippine Environment (FPE) and the Alliance for Climate Protection (doing business as The Climate Reality Project) recently collaborated to stage the 2016 Philippines Climate Reality Leadership Corps Training. The event, held on March 14 to 16, 2016 at the Sofitel Hotel in Manila, was designed to educate Filipino citizens about the urgency and solvability of the climate crisis.

The Climate Reality Project was founded in 2006 by former United States Vice President Al Gore to promote civic action to mitigate and counteract climate change and its destructive effects, as well as to develop advocacy campaigns focused on creating solutions to the ongoing global environmental crisis. Gore himself graced the event to address the local participants attending the Climate Reality Leadership Corps training.

The collaboration aims to create longer-term impact in Philippine society beyond the successful conduct of the Leadership Corps training by empowering local champions who will educate the public about the causes of and solutions to climate change in the country and throughout the world. As local Climate Reality Leaders, they are also equipped with the knowledge and connections to implement substantial climate education campaigns.

The FPE and The Climate Reality Project partnership extends beyond the staging of the local training event. The partnership is also responsible for securing the Philippines’ Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDC) commitments within domestic law or politically until next year, as well as the implementation of at least half of these commitments by 2020.
