Team Philippines Bags Award During the GCF Regional Workshop
Posted on September 13, 2019The Philippines takes the award for Best Adaptation Project Concept Note at the Regional Workshop on "Climate Finance: Green Climate Fund (GCF) Concept Note Write-shop," held in Bangkok, Thailand this week.
The team, composed of Dr. Marqueza Reyes and Mr. Christian Soqueño, Senior Technical Advisers from the Climate Change Commission (CCC); and Mr. Aivan Herzano, Program Officer from the Foundation for the Philippine Environment (FPE), enhanced the project, "Upscaling Climate Resilience of Indigenous and Local Communities in the Philippines," which is an ecosystem-based adaptation project that aims to strengthen the adaptive capacities of drought- and flood-affected IP communities in watershed systems.
The project intends to deploy innovative, replicable, and scalable flood and drought risk mitigation technologies using indigenous knowledge, systems, and practices (IKSP), entailing economic, social, and environmental co-benefits by focusing on marginalized IP sector and areas.
The project idea was borne out of the national consultation with the Tebtebba Foundation and other IP groups and civil society organizations, as led by the Foundation of the Philippine Environment, which is currently undertaking its GCF accreditation process.
The writeshop brought together representatives from the ASEAN region who are engaged in the development and submission of climate finance proposals. It was organized by the Climate Change International Technical and Training Center (CITC), which also expressed support to the Philippines in the development of this concept note into a full funding proposal for submission to the Green Climate Fund (GCF).
